Ed Jones Employee of the Year

(AMERICAN FORK, Utah) - Edwin Jones was eating Sunday dinner with his family at his daughter’s house, when the neighbor ran into the house screaming, “my baby is dying.”

As the baby was draped across the mother’s arms turning colors from not being able to breathe, Jones was prompted to lay the baby down and begin rescue breathing and chest compressions.  Jones helped the baby stay alive until the paramedics arrived.

“I was placed in a situation where everyone would have done the same thing I did,” Jones said.

For his efforts in saving the babies life and maintaining the city’s buildings as the Building Department Superintendent, Jones was awarded the Employee of the Year for American Fork City.In a letter written to Jones by Mayor Heber M. Thompson thanking him for his efforts, the mayor said, “You are an outstanding illustration of an employee who is efficient, hard working, and a true team player.  Your exemplary conduct serves as an important reminder of the dedication and commitment of the employees of American Fork City.”

Jones has worked for the city as the Building Department Superintendent for 25 years.  While he spends his days maintaining all of the city buildings, he credits those he works with for his success.

“It is neat to win the Employee of the Year, but it is because I work with a lot of really good people,” Jones said.  “I work with two people, Matt Burnside and Vern Ebert, who make me look really good.  Without them, things just don’t go the same.”

Jones worked at Geneva Steel before being hired by American Fork City.  He has lived in American Fork for 30 years with his wife and children.
