The news industry has changed drastically in the past decade or so, they have changed how they distribute their news, how they present their news, and even how they receive their news. All these things have been altered to a new type of news platform. The days when we would rush home to turn on the television in order to view the 6:00pm news report are long gone and are now replaced with small handheld devices that allow us to access the news from anywhere at anytime.

Tom Rosenstiel, the executive director of the American Press institute, calls it moving from a “trust me era” in which we would watch a particular newscaster because we liked them and found them credible, to a “show me era” in which the media now needs to demonstrate to us (the masses) why we should rely on them for our news. This gives incredible power to us as consumers of the media, because we now have control of the news. We choose what we want to view and learn about and when we want to view it. The news is now “on demand” and is not restricted by time limits or channels. We are able to view many different sources, therefore, things such as framing and spin do not become as relevant, since we are receiving our news from many different sources who are all competing for our attention and want to put a different angle on the news they deliver. If we want to hear another side or a complete version of a story, prednisone buy canada then we simply click a button or swipe on our screens and we have access to a whole new side and new opinions and facts. This enables us to form a complete idea on the subject.

With such an advancement in technology, it completely alters how journalism is performed. They are able to receive feedback from the audience about what we want to know about. It even changes how they as a journalist get a hold of certain content, they are able to utilize what is known as crowd sourcing. An example (taken from the link below) is when a picture of a protester is printed and the paper claims the man had a heart attack, other news sources ask the audience if anyone has a video of the event, they then receive a video from a hedge fund investor in New York showing that the man was shot and killed by police. Another term for this way of news is called open journalism. Journalists now have access to a much larger source of information, and that is through us; the mass consumers. The common belief that we as a people are becoming less informed about the world around us is a completely false conclusion. We are becoming more informed about many different subjects. The ways in which we consume media have altered greatly, but it has made us more aware. We have much more information now which allows us to make more educated opinions and choices.
